5 Perfect Pink Drugstore Lip Products

January 29th, 2014 By  |  11 Comments

One day back in college, single and incredibly sad after a particularly heart-wrenching breakup a few days before Valentine’s Day, I wandered into the campus bookstore to just look around and take my mind off of things.

Without realizing it, I ended up directly in front of the Hallmark display, completely surrounded by Valentine’s Day cards.

Being something of a glutton for punishment at the time, I started looking through them and found the most perfect card. It had an illustration of a princess kissing a frog above the words, “I had to kiss a lot of frogs before I found my prince.”

I know, super cheesy! But I loved it. And even though I didn’t have someone to give it to that year, I bought it anyway, in the hope of someday having the right person to give it to.

I held on to that card for 10 long years, during which time I moved five times, had six jobs and kissed more frogs, until, at long last, I gave it away — to the man I married on the first Valentine’s Day we spent together as husband and wife.

All of this is to say that Valentine’s Day is coming, and whether you’ll be flying solo this year (and if so, buy the card anyway!), or have a long-standing date, V-Day is a perfect excuse to raid a makeup aisle.

(Really, though, what isn’t a perfect excuse to raid a makeup aisle?)

How about incorporating a pink lip into your look? Here are five perfectly pink lip products to spice up your Valentine’s Day without blowing your beauty budget (because each one is $10 or less).

1. Jordana Twist & Shine Balm Stain in Tropical Frenzy ($3)

Jordana Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain in Tropical Frenzy

This hydrating hot pink balm begins with a glossy finish but fades over 2-3 hours to a soft stain. Smooth, lightweight, and non-sticky, it feels a lot like the much pricier Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tints to me, and yet it only costs $3, as opposed to $24.

2. Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Cherry Twist ($9)

For easy application, Covergirl decked out this sheer pink balm in a twist-up, retractable crayon. Pair it with shimmery golden eyeshadow and black cat liner for a classic makeup look.

3. Maybelline ColorSensational Lip Color in Makeup Me Pink ($7)

This cool pale pink lipstick is my latest drugstore crush. Despite being smooth, creamy and opaque, it doesn’t feel or look heavy. Consider wearing this one with cool gray or black smokey eyes.

4. Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Lip Gloss in Spring Splendor ($9)

If your lips long for moisture half as much as mine, and you love sheer colors and high-shine finishes, this rosy pink lipgloss by Burt’s Bees will have you buzzing.

5. Milani Lip Intense Liquid Color in Pink Rave ($6)

For the bright lip lovers! You won’t be able to take your eyes off Milani’s full-coverage liquid lipstick in magenta Pink Rave. It lasts a solid six hours on my lips. Not only does it look fab, but it feels great, too. Thin, non-sticky and comfortable.
