5 Radiant Orchid Lip Colors
Each year Pantone, those purveyors of color systems designed to accurately communicate colors across a variety of industries (some of their tools look like the colorful paper paint swatches you find at a paint store), picks a new color of the year, and as soon as I saw this year’s happy hue, Radiant Orchid 18-3224, the first thing I thought was YES!
I’ve been loving Radiant Orchid-like makeup shades for years, especially in lipsticks and glosses, and I’m glad to see the color in the spotlight.
My very first purple gloss was a birthday gift from my BFF over a decade ago; I’ve been Team Purple ever since.
OK, purple may seem like an odd choice for lips, but give it a chance! It can look just as flattering as classic pink, coral and peach shades, and depending on the type of makeup look you’re going for, there’s probably a purple lip that fits, whether it’s high fashion or everyday fab.
Ooh! — there are so many pretty purple lipsticks, stains and glosses out there. Here are five pretty periwinkles similar to Pantone’s Radiant Orchid Color of the Year.
1. Topshop Lip Cream in Double Take ($14)
For lasses who like lots of shine and opacity, there’s Topshop $14 Lip Cream in Double Take.
It’s an intensely pigmented creamy liquid lipstick with a glossy finish and full-coverage color. Dramatic? YES! Whenever I’m walking somewhere with it on my lips, I don’t feel like I’m walking. I feel like I’m strutting. Down a runway.
2. Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stain in Pourpre Preview ($34)
At $34, Yves Saint Laurent’s Pourpre Preview is a splurge, but you’re getting two lip products for the (still admittedly high) price of one.
This pretty purple goes on as a high-shine gloss but wears down to a lip stain over time.
As it’s semi-opaque, some of your natural lip color should shine through. This one’s a great pick if you want an everyday purple you can wear to work.
3. Benefit Lollitint ($30)
Speaking of two products for the price of one, Benefit’s $30 Lollitint doubles as a lip tint and a cheek stain, taking the guesswork out of choosing a blush to wear with your pretty purple pout.
Flexibility is this shade’s middle name. Apply a single layer of the liquid stain formula on your lips for a sweet lavender pink, or build it up to a more intense purplish pink fuchsia.
4. Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Lollipop ($22)
Creamy, dreamy Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Lollipop ($22) has the cutest flecks of golden glitter.
I think the gold warms things up a bit, color temperature-wise, which might be why it pairs so well with peach and coral cheeks. If you keep your blush stash stocked with either of those shades, I bet you’ll be sweet on Lollipop.
5. NARS Larger Than Life Lipgloss in Annees Folles ($26)
Now, if you prefer your lip colors on the subtler side, NARS Larger Than Life Lipgloss in Annees Folles ($26) might be your style.
This sheer, shiny lipgloss has a barely-there violet tint, which lends lips a soft purple shine. Grab a tube if you like your lip looks on the natural side.
