How to Pamper Your Hands and Feet
My hands and my feet take a beating.
My poor hands… especially around this time of year, they get all dry and cracked from the cold weather.
And then there’s my feet… from chasing my kids to walking around with my pregnant belly to (still) wearing winter boots and shoes right now (making me sweat!)… they sure are getting some tough action lately.
Your hand and your feet take on a lot, it’s just one of those things you can’t avoid. The good thing is, there is something you can do for them – pamper away!
How to Pamper Your Hands and Feet?
I have 5 ways in which you can really help relieve some of the stress that you put on your hands and your feet every single day. Your main goal is just to make sure you give yourself the time to pamper your hands and your feet, inadvertently… yourself. It’s funny how we can forget about our hands and our feet. We take the time to workout and do yoga and eat healthy, but it’s also important to think of other areas of our body, too. Believe me, this is only something I started doing about 2 years ago… so this is still new territory for me!
1) Manicure/Pedicure

This is most likely the most common and the most popular. The beauty about a manicure/pedicure is that you have a trained professional taking care of your hands and your feet. They massage. They moisturize. They pamper. The cost is low and it’s a great way for you to zone out and enjoy a little R&R for 45 minutes to an hour. My personal advice is to set-up a standing appointment every 2 weeks or (at least) a month.
2) Exfoliate your hands and feet

My biggest problem with my hands and my feet is dry skin. I started exfoliating my legs when I was in high school and I always loved the feel of the smoothness that came after I exfoliated. I don’t do it every time I’m in the shower, only 2-3 times a month. I suggest exfoliating your hands and your feet, too! You are able to exfoliate away dead, dry skin (especially on your feet!). When I exfoliate my hands on my own, I always concentrate on the top of my hands, and always exfoliate in circular motions. When exfoliating your feet, concentrate on the dry, rough spots (like your heels). This is wonderful to do because you can do at home, on your own time.
3) Moisturize!

This is something that I hope everyone’s doing on their own, but if you’re not – start now! This is super easy and can work into anyone’s schedule. Moisturize your hands and your feet every single day! I love to do this right before I go to bed because I let the lotion work “it’s magic” overnight. It’s a great way to pamper your hands and your feet because you’re adding a layer of moisture to your skin to relieve dryness and help sensitive skin. One thing I even do once in awhile is add extra lotion to my feet and sleep with loose cotton socks, I wake up with the softness feet in the world!
4) Hand/Foot Soaks

Hand and foot soaks are great to do at night while watching TV, they’re very easy and very simple to do. I have a soak that I have used before that I am excited to share with you… it’s the combination of Epson Salt, Powdered Milk and Peppermint Essential Oil, and it’s heavenly! If this is something you’re not sure you’d love, search around online for “foot soaks” or “hand soaks”… you will find dozens of them and just find one that fits your fancy. TOTAL pampering at its finest.
5) Massages

Oh, yes… and if you’re in dire NEED of total pampering, get yourself a hand or a foot massage. You will be so happy you gave your hands and your feet the moment of pampering.

Can anyone offer a solution to ridged nails. As of about a year ago, my nails started to grow in with vertical ridges. Now I have to keep them trimmed down to the hilt, otherwise they split along the ridges.
What is the cure for cracks that occur on one’s thumb pad? I work in a large retail store so I handle everything from lumber through to garden items and money. I wash my hands and moisturizer each time but the cracked thumb pads still occur! Other than wearing clothes with Vaseline at work do you have any suggestions?
